Blackout Shutters provide almost complete blackout. No available window treatment can create 100% blackout due to how light works. A room would have to be without any windows or doors as light will always find any tiny little crevice to peek through. However, without doubt, blackout shutters are the very best solution available. Because they are made-to-measure, light bleed is minimised and they create a very dark environment when closed as there is no fabric for light to filter through.
Blackout Blinds Fitted With Shutters
Blackout shutters when combined with blackout blinds will give the ultimate that can be achieved, as any light bleed from one will be virtually cancelled out by the other. Choose blinds such as the S:CRAFT PURE Cell Honeycomb, as not only are they versatile, there is a day and night option which combines two materials – one black and the other opaque – to use depending on the time of day and the amount of blackout required. Use these together with blackout shutters and daytime naps and street lighting will no longer be a problem as the combined result is extremely effective.
BLACKOUT FOR NURSERIES, TV ROOMS AND BEDROOMS
Some customers are seeking shutters which, when closed, will leave their rooms in almost complete blackness. The solution is our very effective blackout shutters. These shutters are fitted with a discreet blackout pleated blind into the frame and integrated into the window space.
Built-in blackout shutters are ideal for those people who like to sleep in total darkness even during the day, for example if you are a night worker such as a nurse. Or in nursery where babies need to take a nap during the day.
Our customers have also reported that blackout shutters also provide double sound insulation and added thermal insulation as they protect from drafts and cold air.

Louvre size affects the amount of light that gets through your window. When choosing the size of your shutter louvres you have to take into account a number of factors such as the size of your window, the level of exposure to sunlight and ultimately what you want your shutters to achieve (e.g. privacy or shield form the sun). Large louvres will allow more light in but they will also give you less privacy when open. Small louvres will give you more privacy but will also allow less light in.
SOLID SHUTTER PANELS
Shutter panels do not have to be louvred. We have a range of different solid wood panels, from simple shaker style to more elaborate moulded panels. These solid panels will block out light almost completely. And if you still want some light control, why not choose half- solid/half-louvred panels? Remember: our shutters are fully bespoke to your needs, so anything is possible (… well, almost!).
